Video-On-Demand Library
ResearchChannel streams thousands of programs in our video-on-demand library. Most programs are available in two formats: Windows Media and QuickTime.
After selecting preferred player, select a connection speed (in the dropdown menu) that best matches your network connection speed. Generally, faster speeds deliver smoother and higher resolution video, but selecting a speed which exceeds that of your network may cause stalls or failure.
Windows Media Multibit Streams
Some ResearchChannel programs/webcasts are presented as a Windows Media 9 stream. This allows us to offer one stream that will automatically detect the optimal bitrate for your connection. You can also set it to a lower bit rate if you want to throttle the amount of bandwidth the video is taking up, or you can set it to a higher bit rate if bandwidth isn't an issue.
To change the settings in your Windows Media Player, go to the Tools menu and select Options. Go to the Performance tab, which is displayed below. After you select your connection speed, close your WindowsMedia Player and restart it.
How to view captions in our videos
A growing selection of ResearchChannel programs are available closed captioned (CC) through our streaming video library. Captioned programs are identified as such on their description page.
Currently, Windows Media Player (Version 9 or higher) or QuickTime are required to view captioning. Please note: Captions are currently only available for these streaming formats, and not the podcast/downloadable versions.
To watch a program with captioning, launch the video using the dropdown menus and then perform the following actions once the player window opens -
